English Countryside Photographs

English Countryside Photographs is a collection of architectural and landscape photographs I took while traveling from London, through the Cotswolds, down to Cornwall.

This detail of the Westminster Bridge shows Prince Albert's coat of arms. Through the bridge, at the lower left, you can see a portion of the Lambeth Bridge with its distinctive red paint.

This is a detail view of Shell House in the Warren area of Polperro, Cornwall, England. The wall of the cottage was decorated in this manner over a five year period in the 1930s by a retired sailor, Samuel Puckey. Many of the shells came from Mr Puckey's travels around the world during his days at sea.

The church was originally built in the 11th century on the site of a former 10th century nunnery and possibly a 9th century church it was rebuilt between 1551 and 1555 following the Reformation using stone from the now destroyed Reading Abbey. The belltower is somewhat newer.

Other photos not from the English Countryside

London is an architectural mash-up of ancient and futuristic. It is a cacophony of competing visual forms that is overwhelming to behold. Here are two very different collections of photographs:

Architectural abstracts

While in London I found many interesting architectural patterns. Then, I searched for ways to disassociate them from their reality—the buildings where they were found. So, in this collection, London Architectural Abstracts, I attempt to filter this architectural dissonance and concentrate on individual patterns.

Views from street-level

I walked the sidewalks, rode busses, and cruised on the Thames, looking up at bridges, skyscrapers, steeples, and monuments to find the photos in this collection: London Looking Up
