1970 Dodge Challenger Photos

In 1970, if you hankered for a luxurious muscle car built to your specifications, Dodge had a solution, the Challenger. Today, if you want a 70s muscle car that is rare (or even unique) and one that you can restore or upgrade, a 1970 Dodge Challenger can fulfill your dreams.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE Hemi

The Challenger pictured here started life as an SE model but was upgraded to an R/T SE Hemi – a process the ancient Romans would have called apotheosis.

This example sports a Dark Burnt Orange Metallic exterior with a black vinyl roof and a Sunfire Orange Metallic interior with leather seats.

More about the 1970 Dodge Challenger

The 1970 Dodge Challenger has become a cultural icon and a symbol of the muscle-car era. A Challenger R/T 440 Magnum was featured in the somewhat surrealistic B-movie Vanishing Point. (Call me traditional, but naked biker chicks seem surreal to me.) In the series NCIS, Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon) received a lovingly restored 1971 Challenger R/T Hemi from his father (played by Ralph Waite).

Collectors have taken note. A perfectly restored, numbers-matching Challenger R/T Hemi can sell for a quarter million dollars. Read more about this model.

About this photo shoot

We were tasked with making photos for a sales brochure. The car was located in a warehouse, where the engine was still being prepped. Since it could not be started, all we could do was dolly it around within the warehouse and the surrounding parking area. And, before any photos could be taken, we had to give the vehicle a hood-to-tail detailing.

About the photos

Since the car was photographed under less than perfect conditions,  our challenge was to produce finished photographs that obscured the undesireable backgrounds and made the most of the inconsistent lighting. So, we cut the car out of the undesirable backgrounds and placed it in a virtual studio, adjusting the virtual spot lights.
