Tucson is in the Sonoran Desert of southern Arizona. There are many places to visit around Tucson. Some of these places include:
- Saguaro National Park,
- Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum,
- San Xavier del Bac,
- Titan Missle Museum.
However, plan your visit in February and March in order to avoid excessive heat.

Saguaro National Park
Tucson splits Saguaro National Park into two districts. To the west is the Tucson Mountain District. To the east is the Rincon Mountain District. Here are maps of the park from the National Park Service site.
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum features an extensive collection of indigenous plants and animals. So, it is a great place to prepare for your visit to Saguaro National Park. And, the museum provides a respite on particularly hot days. Here is more information about the museum.
Mission San Xavier del Bac
Mission San Xavier del Bac is the finest example of Spanish Colonial architecture in the US. The exterior is monumental, with classical Spanish architectural motifs. In addition, the interior is a feast for the eyes with numerous statues of saints, holy relics, and faux finishes.
On the Tohono O’odham Nation San Xavier Indian Reservation, the mission is about 11 miles south of Tucson. Remember, San Xavier is popular and attracts 200,000 or more visitors a year. So, plan to visit the mission early in the day.
Titan Missle Museum
Titan Missle Museum gives visitors an up-close and personal view of a cold-war missile silo base. And, best of all, the museum’s exhibits are underground and air-conditioned. This makes the museum a perfect destination when the temperature gets a little toasty. The museum is just south of Tucson on Interstate 19.
